FILM & TV EDITING/MOTION GRAPHICS

SERIES TELEVISION

NEW JERSEY MEANS BUSINESS: Made in New Jersey

I recut and onlined eight half hour shows for a new FiOS1 magazine format series, added footage with greenscreen and motion tracking to put video content into cell phone and iPad screens; color corrected and matched footage, and did the final audio mix. This episode came to me as two interviews in rough assembly. I cut them for time and content with the producer, connected them into a full episode, cut montage sequences, added b-roll and music, completed packaging it with series graphics, then finished color correction and sound mix, enough work to honestly say I cut this episode.

FEATURE LENGTH DOCUMENTARY

INVISIBLE UNIVERSE:

I edited this seven minute long presentation for a documentary by Asli Dukan on the history of black speculative fiction called "Invisible Universe". The video is essentially the opening of the film and introduction of its themes, to be used to raise funds to edit the full film and complete post-production. I edited video and composited edited clips into assorted video monitors, both still and moving, in sci-fi inspired wraparound footage, in addition to designing video looks and graphic animation of titles.

AN UNKNOWN COUNTRY:

I edited, did photo and film restoration and motion graphics for An Unknown Country, an independent documentary by Emmy-winning director Eva Zelig.  It tells her personal story of European Jews, including her family, who fled Nazi persecution and found refuge in an unlikely destination: Ecuador. This small South American country, barely known at the time, took them in when most had closed their doors.

Featuring first hand accounts, family photos, and archival material, the film opens a window on the exiles' perilous escape and difficult adjustment as they remade their lives in an unknown land. The film reveals fresh insights as it chronicles the refugees’ struggles to build new lives, while holding on to elements of their European culture in what was for them an exotic, unfamiliar culture. It explores the relations between the local inhabitants and the European immigrants in their midst, and highlights the contributions the refugees made to the economic, artistic, and social life of their host country.

SHORT FILMS

ASSEMBLE:

I edited an hour of performance video and b-roll into an eight minute conceptual video compression of the live show, that conveyed its essential message in a non-traditional narrative that captured the spirit of the event. Produced for the Interfictions Online art journal, http://interfictions.com/assemble-theatre-dybbuk/

HALF-RESURRECTION BLUES:

I shot "Half-Resurrection Blues" myself in a day and a half and edited it in Premiere as a pilot for a web series of films of readings of writers of color in science fiction, fantasy and horror.

LEARN X DESIGN:

I recently re-edited a series of instructional videos produced by seven science museums for a website organized by the New York Science Museum. Originally I was just to conform the open and closes of all videos, change lower thirds and other art to unify the series, but ended up re-cutting at least a third of them for content and was able to make them much clearer for the client. You can see all the videos here:
